The Importance of Skincare During the Winter

Skincare experts are showing increasing concern about the effects that the winter elements can have because regardless of how visible the sunshine is, UV light can cause the production of unstable molecules inside our skin called 'free radicals' to increase, and overtime they will progressively damage our skin tissues and obstruct the body's natural release of collagen, thereby modifying our skin's DNA. This results in many harmful effects, as skin will be left dehydrated and unhealthy which will not only lead to blemishes such as wrinkles, but may even lead to forms of skin cancer being developed too.

The winter weather can also exasperate existing skin problems like rashes, acne and sores. Those who suffer from allergies are also more prone to skin outbreaks during the winter and unhealthy skin is more vulnerable to diseases and infections. Skin will also be more likely to become scarred if an injury is sustained due to the damaging effects that results from the sudden transition into a colder climate after the warmer summer months. One way of helping to avoid these effects is to keep our skin hydrated at all times by consistently drinking water throughout our everyday lives. Eating a balanced diet containing vitamins and minerals is also an effective method of keeping skin healthy by flushing out the harmful toxins that our bodies can pick up.

Although there is no definitive answer to how much sunlight will damage our skin due to the fact that different people tolerate different levels of sunlight due to the pigment and colourisation of their skin, there universally recognised ways of ensuring that skin will remain as healthy as possible under UV rays during the winter months.

The most effective way to maintain healthy skin from a cosmetic viewpoint is to regularly cleanse and moisturise our skin because since skin exists in a constant state of growth with old cells dying and new ones developing, it is vital to wash away the top layer of dead skin cells. This will not only result in fresher cells being produced but will also increase circulatory blood flow to help create a regular release of healthy cells.

How to Decide Which Cosmetics Effectively Control Oily Skin

Oily skin is one of the most common skin problems faced by teenagers and adults alike. The cosmetics industry has given rise to thousands of different skin care products over the past few decades to address this issue. Some have proven to be incredibly effective, while many have not. An important fact to remember is that while everyone's skin is unique, the underlying problems that cause oily skin are not. By identifying what is causing oily skin it is easier to choose the right cosmetics to effectively solve the problem.

The reason skin troubles are most often associated with teenagers and young adults is because it is often caused by an increase in testosterone production. Testosterone is a male hormone however it is present men and women alike to varying degrees. The amount of testosterone in the bloodstream is a primary factor which causes excessive sebum production and secretion. It is important to note that other environmental and physical factors affect sebum production and secretion as well.

Controlling sebum production and secretion is the key to controlling oily skin. Excessive sebum secretion creates an oily film on the skin. Not only does this physically make the skin feel oily but it also increases the retention of dead skin cells. It is the retention of dead skin cells which are the leading cause of common skin conditions including pimples, acne, clogged pores, enlarged pores, and rough skin.

To decide which cosmetics will effectively control oily skin, it is important to focus on their underlying approach. The first thing effective cosmetics need to do is control the excessive sebum and dead skin cell accumulation. It is impossible to completely stop this process but it can be effectively limited.

Additionally, effective cosmetics must provide additional nourishment and relaxation to promote healthy skin growth. Unhealthy skin is at an increased risk of bacterial growth and the formation of free fatty acids. This is what causes the inflammation commonly associated with unhealthy skin and acne.

To control oily skin it is also important to utilize a moisturizer that creates a protective layer on the skin. This promotes healthy skin because it prevents the release of elastase and the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are associated with a variety of skin conditions. Finally, an effective cosmetic must thoroughly cleanse the pores. Clean pores not only lead to healthier looking skin but provide an additional defense against inflammation and the release of elastase and free radicals.

When choosing the right cosmetics, it is important to ensure they will control oily skin by combatting all of the problems associated with poor skin health. Some cosmetic companies package multiple products together when each product is designed to combat a specific factor which leads to oily skin. Other companies utilize an all-in-one approach. Neither option is inherently superior as both have proven effective. The key is trying multiple cosmetics to determine which one is the most effective for each person's unique skin type.

Vitamin D Effictiveness

Since earliest recorded information, man has known of the health benefits the sun gives us. The sunlight treatments were used on everything from coughs and colds and epilepsy; to TB and cancers until the discovery of antibiotics revolutionised medical treatments. When the connection between sunburn and melanoma was made, then sunblock creams and lotions flooded the world, and we had the "cover-up" very successful "slip, slop, slap" program in Australia, and physicians advised people to avoid the sun.

Since then, it has been discovered that healthy sun exposure can be achieved between 10am and 2pm, where a large area of skin needs to be exposed so that the UVB rays can convert vitamin D. This is a problem for a lot of people working a 9-5 job, with few opportunities even with a lunch break to achieve this. Mowing the lawn on the weekend, or going to the beach can often lead to an over exposure of skin to the sun, with an ensuing sunburn which leaves skin vulnerable.

Another interesting discovery is that there appears to be a link to triple-negative breast cancer and low vitamin D levels; in fact, a team of researchers found that Genetic expression was the path that allows tumor cells to grow, and that Vitamin D plays a vital role in turning off that pathway!

So we clearly see then that we all need adequate levels of vitamin D, but if we work during sunlight hours on most days, then we clearly need to get it from somewhere else.

There are UVB tanning beds, or there is supplementation. How much do you take? There are various factors to consider say the experts; how much UVB you do get, your age, weight, and physical activity, and also the reason you are supplementing. Dosages vary from 200 IU daily up to 50,000 IU daily for 6 weeks according to various studies.

It is always safe to see your health practitioner, get your blood levels done, and take his advice on the dosage.

Studies on calcium and Vitamin K 2 have been done in conjunction with Vitamin D as to increasing effectiveness, and various supplements are available commercially.

It is hard to estimate the conditions of the day as to how long you can safely be out in the sun without damage, but I have heard some experts say, that given the various conditions of the day; time, season, cloud conditions, most of us can approximate how long we can be in the sun without burning. They advise to take that estimated time to burn, and only be out in the sun for a third of that time.

Tips On How To Have Beautiful Skin

Having a beautiful and flawless skin is difficult to achieve, unless if you are gifted with good genes to achieve such perfection. For many people who want to achieve this, they are using different skin products. Lucky to those who are responding well to such products, they can have the skin that they want. However, to those who have negative reactions to such chemicals, it is safe to say that their skin would look worse than before.

It is sad to say that the definition of beautiful skin is defined on what we see on television. Yes it is true that having beautiful skin is a great thing, however, what we see in television is most of the time, the product of technology. When we say technology, it means that it could have been computer edited or put with makeup to hide the imperfections.

So if you are asking yourself, "Why is my skin so bad?" Here are some things that you need to know on how to have beautiful skin.

People have different skin conditions, and these conditions are actually your bases on what approach to do in order to achieve beautiful skin. For instance, if you have oily skin, you have higher chances of having acne. With this, you need to use mild soap for oily skin and wash you face in the morning and evening. Just make sure that you do not wash your face too often because its condition would worsen. This is because when you wash your face, your skin would replenish the oil that has been removed thus; your oil glands would produce more.

On the other hand, when you have dry skin, using soaps with high content of moisturizer is the best way to go. The moisturizer can keep your skin hydrated and would make it more supple. Of course, it would be ideal if you use water-based moisturizer in the morning and evening, before you go to bed.

When you have very sensitive skin, it is a great idea if you use scent-free and hypoallergenic soaps and beauty products. This way, you can get rid of having allergic reaction that could worsen the condition of your skin. It may also be great for you to use all-natural or organic products so that you can be sure that you do not apply anything that could case adverse reactions. These include, organic make-ups, soap, beauty products and many more.

Having beautiful skin does not only depend on what you apply or use on your skin. You also have to make sure that you eat healthily. Eating healthy foods can help boost your immune system as well as helps in excreting the toxins from your body. When there is an excretion of toxins, you can be sure that you will glow and so as your skin.

Of course, one of the things that you can also do to achieve beautiful and glowing skin is to do regular exercise. Remember that when you sweat, you are removing the free radicals. Besides that, when you exercise, you are giving your body better blood circulation. With this, you can do at least 30 minutes of cardio workout every day.
When you do all of these, you will never have to ask yourself, "Why is my skin so bad?"

What Is The Right Diet for Your Body Type?

Do you have a hard time losing weight? If you have developed excess fat around your body and you feel like your blood pressure is always high, it's time that you evaluate your daily diet. Have you heard about body type diets? Based on this diet program, each person has a unique body shape. Some individuals have extra fat around their hips while others fat belly. And because of hormonal imbalances, there are bodies that store fats in more places. Apparently, there are various types of hormones in our body and each is triggered by different elements.

If you want to lose weight without necessarily depriving yourself from good food, a healthy and nutritious diet is essential. But then not all diet programs are suitable to all body shapes. If you want to shed those excess pounds in your body without compromising your health, you must choose a specific diet based on your body type. For every body type, there is a unique diet program that can cater to your body needs. Before you start losing weight, you must first identify your body type.

Adrenal Type

This body shape is predisposed to stress and fatigue. Apparently, stress drains the body. In order to cope with the loss of energy, it produces a hormone called cortisol that stores fat as an energy source. In case of distressing events, the body takes its energy from the stored fats in various places.

People with this body shape are characterized by having fat belly, constant cravings for salty and sweet foods and dark circles around the eyes. Considering the concept of body type diets, the most appropriate diet program for people with adrenal type is foods rich in calcium, green vegetables and vitamin C.

Liver Type

People with liver type body shape tend to suffer from jaundice and dandruff. More often than not, these people get irritable in the morning. The ideal diet program for people with liver type bodies should include foods rich in potassium and protein. Regular exercise must be observed especially intense yet short workouts.

Ovary Type

Ovary body shape is common only to women. Women who have this type of body shape tend to carry extra fat around their hips and stomach. They tend to crave dairy products, which is why their diet program should include other nutritious foods such as fruits and green leafy vegetables. More specifically, they need cruciferous vegetables because they are antiestrogenic. This type food neutralizes the effects of excessive estrogen level in women's body. In addition, it is also advised that they eat more hormone-free meat along with light and intense workout.

Thyroid Type

People with thyroid body shape have an even distribution of mass all over their bodies. They tend to crave sweet foods and are likely to suffer from depression. Also, people with this body shape tend to have dry hair and brittle nails. Thyroid body type can effectively lose weight through a diet that consists of iodine-rich vegetables and intense workout.
